Care Uk is bringing Harvest festivals to care homes across the UK

"This autumn we have joined forces with local food banks and primary school children across the UK to celebrate Harvest Festival.  

Residents are joining forces with primary school children across the country to celebrate the annual festival."

As well as the Company's wide roll out of Harvest Fest we also added some Autumn themed crafts to our Lifestyle program which involved us recycling every day items such as tin cans to create some pumpkin decorations for each of the suites. Along with two lovely scarecrows created by using lost property which was not claimed after long periods of time, old pillowcases and our left over hay bales which were in our garden.

Residents along with the lifestyle staff, care assistants and children we were able to create some autumnal pumpkins out of items that we recycle daily. Seeing everyday objects turn into something beautiful for us all too see and knowing we are using objects we already have rather than purchasing new really brings us pride in our activities.

The pumpkin tins were super easy to make using old baked bean and soup cans along with some felt sheets to create stalks and some plastic leaves we painted and then got glued all the items together. Using plastic leaves allows us to store these away and reuse next year for decor as well.

Meet our two Harvest Festival friends made by residents and children of our homes family. These scarecrows were build using wooden dowels and recycled clothing. Building scarecrows was a first for us but we are super proud of how they turned out. Using hay bales which have participated in many activities in our home and that were coming to the end of there use as seats due to having them for over a year. This allows us to get one more use out of them for harvest before going to be composted.

As our first Sustainablility Project with myself as champion I am super proud of the work we have done as a Care Home and excited for future projects we have planned. Working together with all the departments within the home to create a better environment for everyone.
